The annual writing contest faced some obstacles this year, but our faithful volunteers made it happen! The contest is open to K-12 students throughout Leon County in every type of academic setting: public, private, charter, virtual, and homeschool. Entries poured in prior to spring break. Local authors and retired teachers volunteered to meet in late March and judge entries. However, COVID-19 restrictions put up a roadblock and forced a change in the format of judging. A huge thanks goes to M.R. Street of Turtle Cove Press for scanning all student entries, creating files by age categories, and coordinating a remote system of judging. We'd also like to thank Tallahassee Writers Association for their continued support of this contest. Winners in each category are listed below in alphabetical order by first name. Individual places will be identified, first place stories will be read, and information will be shared about purchasing an anthology of winning entries at a virtual awards ceremony. During the week of May 18, a private link will be emailed to all participants' parents and teachers, and the ceremony will be available for viewing beginning Thursday, May 21, at 7 PM.
